#52 Augie

The last rescue for the year is Augie! Augie is a 2-year-old chinchilla, who is currently up for adoption at Rehoming Unsettled Animals, in Gurley, Alabama. Augie is closely bonded with his litter mate Pyp. They love playing and cuddling both which each other and with humans.

I cannot believe I am done with all 52 rescue paintings for the year! 2015 has been so incredible; I've learned new techniques, made new friends and reconnected with some old ones, and have fallen in love with 52 beautiful animals.

Everyone is invited to the open house on the 16th of January, from 4-8 pm at the Dreaming Tree Galleries in Grove City, Ohio where all 52 portraits will be on display!

I  am still accepting commissions during the Year of 52 Rescues, they just might take me a little bit longer to complete. I paint from a photograph, and I've been known to paint humans too!

The humans at Adopt A Pit rescue in Germantown, Ohio call Little Girl a "Pocket Pittie" because she stands a foot off the ground. She was one of 47 dogs seized in a hording case. She had never known love before she was rescued, but she is learning to live in a house, and she loves snuggles and treats.

Buster is with Clipped Ear Cat Sanctuary in Willis, Texas although he is clearly not a cat! Buster was taken in by Clipped Ear when he was picked up emaciated, and covered in mange going from garage to garage desperately seeking shelter. His poor paws were bloody from his skin condition. Buster is approximately 10-12 years old. He is healthier now and looking for a home to live out his golden years.

Guinness is a 4-year-old, tri-color Pembroke (no tail) Corgi with Celtic Corgi Rescue out of Choctaw, Oklahoma. He is a friendly, loving dog but his ideal home is one with no other male dogs and no small children.

Picture
Butternut is a sweet bunny who was surrendered to East Bay Rabbit Rescue in Dublin, California when her family was forced to relocate and were unable to find a home to rent that would allow them to have a pet rabbit. Having been raised by three little girls, she is easy to handle. She is playful, and meticulous about using her litter box.

The rescue this week is a cat named Flip. He was taken in by the Calumet Area Humane Society in Munster, Indiana as a stray. Estimated to be about 8-years-old he is a gentle, loving dude who enjoys cuddling. No one is sure how his ear was injured, but that is how he got his name. He has had trouble finding a family to take him home because he is diabetic and requires daily insulin injections.

Adopt A Pit Rescue in Germantown, Ohio doesn't know why Seahawk has been with them for two whole years, because she is such a sweet dog. She came to them pregnant and very scared. All of her puppies were adopted, but she is still looking for a home. She gets along well with other dogs, and she loves to snuggle!

Adopt A Pit will be bringing a few adoptable dogs to the Year of 52 Rescues open house!!

Picture
Moto is a 2-year-old Staffordshire Terrier who is a difficult adoption because he is blind and will need some training to not be stressed around other dogs. At the Humane Society Calumet Area in Munster, Indiana he is currently living in the office of their behavioral consultant because he gets too nervous being surrounded by other dogs, but Moto is great with children and would be a wonderful companion for an active family. Even though he is blind, his favorite game is fetch! He listens for the ball and then finds it by smell. He loves to snuggle and will happily sleep in your lap.

#44 Ruby

This week's rescue is Ruby, who was taken away from her owners when it was discovered that she was being starved, while she was pregnant. She was severely underweight and she was placed in a high-kill shelter in Georgia. (Pregnant animals are some of the first put down in kill shelters.) A New Jersey based rescue called Home For Good Dogs found Ruby a foster home in Georgia, where, despite her being severely malnourished, they were able to save 7 of her 9 puppies. Ruby is back up to a healthy weight, and she has actually already been adopted between the shelter submitting her story to me, and getting her painted!

Ashes was surrendered to Lakeshore Humane Society in Manitowoc, Wisconsin when her owner fell on hard times and could no longer afford to care for her properly. She is thought to be about 5-years-old. She was surrendered with a number of cat care items, including her much beloved tiger striped bed, which will go with her to her forever home.
