This week's rescue is a sugar glider named Annie. She was turned in to Mid-Michigan Reptile and Exotic Rescue by her owner who was pregnant with her second child and decided that she could not properly care for sugar gliders and two small children. Unfortunately, sugar gliders are commonly turned in to rescues because they are A LOT of work. They are small marsupials from Australia, and they are ridiculously cute, and they are often purchased on impulse. Most places that sell them as pets do not inform the people buying them just how much care they will require. Annie is currently being socialized, and will be ready for adoption with her bonded sister in about a year. If you are considering bringing home a sugar glider please do some reading first!
I am still accepting commissions during the Year of 52 Rescues, they just might take me a little bit longer to complete. I paint from a photograph, and I've been known to paint humans too!
